Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Wednesday said Manjurul Islam Liton, MP from Gaibandha-1 constituency, will have to stand trial after surrendering to the court in connection with the shooting of a minor boy.
“We aren’t sparing MPs… we aren’t sparing our party leaders and activists. Actions are being taken against those involved in committing crimes,” he said.
The minister was replying to a question from reporters after attending a programme marking the National Rat Elimination Drive-2015 at Khamarbari of Farmgate in the city.
Asaduzzaman said police have already registered an attempted murder case against the ruling party MP and seized his firearms. “He will have to face trial after surrendering before the court,” he added.
Stray bullets from the pistol of MP Manjurul Islam Liton struck eight-year-old boy Sourav when Liton was going to his Bamondanga village home driving his own car early October 2, leaving the boy injured.
On October 3, victim’s father Saju Miah filed the case with Sundarganj Police Station against Liton.
