MP Latif persona non grata for tampering with Bangabandhu’s picture

Declaring ruling party MP MA Latif persona non grata in Chittagong for tampering with Bangabandhu’s picture on billboards and festoons, city Awami League on Monday demanded his arrest within 15 days. The demand came from a rally held at Laldighi Maidan in the afternoon.

In his speech, city Awami League President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury demanded that MA Latif be arrested within 15 days, saying they will take next decision at another rally here if their demand is not met by the deadline.

Mohiuddin, former CCC mayor, also urged the Home Ministry to allow the filing of sedition case against MP Latif.

Latif reportedly distorted Bangabandhu’s picture by superimposing the image of the Father of the Nation on his own body on billboards and festoons hung in Patenga and Bandar areas on the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent visit to the port city.

The posture, attire and shoes of the photo do not match with the Father of the Nation’s ones, promoting some BCL men to post the photo on Facebook, airing their doubt.

In the photo, they alleged that Bangabandhu’s face was tagged with the figure of Latif wearing Salwar and sneakers.

As the photo went viral on social media, ruling party men burst into protests demanding punishment against him for his audacity.

Latif, former president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, admitted to the distortion and blamed the designer for it.
