National unity by undermining Zia’s contributions not possible


The BNP on Wednesday claimed that the national unity cannot be established by undermining the contribution of late President Ziaur Rahman.
“We welcome the recent statements of Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam to unite the nation. Our party also thinks that there should be unity on different national issues. Others, national progress will not be possible,” said BNP spokesperson Dr Asaduzzaman while addressing a press conference at party central office at Naya Paltan.
He added, the national development cannot be ensured undermining anyone.
Ripon, also international affairs secretary, criticized Syed Ashraf for making contradictory remarks on his statement regarding the national unity by steeringmore controversies on political disputes.
“We certainly want national unity. But we have to come out from political disputes and resolve those to achieve those,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said the law and judiciary cannot work by freeing from the influence of the government.
Asked to comment on AL’s call to Khaleda Zia to refrain from observing her birth anniversary on August 15, he said it is her personal matter and he cannot make any comment on it.
“Khaleda Zia never celebrated her birthday from her own. It was a natural manifestation of party leaders and workers,” he said.
Asadul Habib Dulu, Abdus Salam Azad and Shammi Akhter, among others, were present on the occasion.
