Culture Desk

A meeting for exchange of thoughts was held last week with a view to establish Asiatic Society Heritage Museum at the auditorium of Asiatic Society. A museum preserving the historic pieces of Nawabi heritage of Old Dhaka is on cards. The museum has been proposed to be set up at Nimtoli Deuri, Chankharpul in the capital.

The present meeting was held to gather support from the permanent residents of Dhaka and share thoughts in this regard. Asiatic Society the promoter of the proposed museum has very few artifacts belonging to the Nawabi era in its stock. As such it sought cooperation from local Dhaka residents to contribute with pieces they have in their possession for enriching the museum. The meeting session was presided over by Dr Sharif Uddin Ahmed, vice-president of Asiatic Society Bangladesh. Dr AKM Golam Rabbani, general secretary of Asiatic Society was present as discussant while Jahangir Hussain, former Keeper of Bangladesh National Museum and chairman of ICOM, Bangladesh delivered a power-point presentation on the topic of collecting artifacts for the proposed museum.
