Nayan Ali confesses to leaking SQC verdict

Nayan Ali, employee of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on Thursday made confessional statement to a Dhaka court admitting his
involvement in the tribunal’s verdict leaking incident.
Magistrate Tarique Moinul Islam Bhuiyan of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka recorded the statement.
Earlier on the day, investigation officer (IO) Detective Branch (DB) inspector Mohammad Shahjahan produced Nayan before the Magistrate
before the completion of his 8-day remand to record his confessional statement. After recording the statement the Magistrate sent Nayan Ali
to the jail.
On October 5, Magistrate MA Salam of the CMM Court placed Nayan Ali and Faruk Hossain, and office assistant of the tribunal on an 8-day
remand each for interrogating them.
Earlier, the IO of the case sought a 10-day remand each for interrogating the duo in connection with the alleged leaking of the
draft of war crime convict BNP lawmaker Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
The remand came a day after a case was filed against them and Mehedi Hasan, assistant to SQ Chowdhury’s counsel Barrister Fakhrul Islam,
and several other unnamed people for their alleged link with the leakage.
On October 2, the registrar of the tribunal made a diary with Shahbagh Police Station seeking investigation and other necessary action, while
the court direct the DB to investigate.
Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, a BNP standing committee member and party’s MP was sentenced to death on October 1, for crimes against
humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971.
On the day, Farhat Chowdhuty, wife of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury showed the ICT verdict to newsmen, which she claimed was downloaded
from internet before the pronouncement of the judgement. – Court Correspondent
