Nephew to die for killing uncle: 2 sons get life-term for killing father

S.M. Solaiman, District and Session Judge of Bagerhat, in  a judgment delivered on Sunday,  convicted Khalilur Rahman, son of one Mohammad Ail of village Khejurbaria under Sharankhokla Upazila in the district and sentenced him to be hanged till his death on the charge of killing his paternal uncle Abdul Latif of the same village. The same judge also convicted Zillur and Shah Alam, sons of deceased Abdul Latif and
his nephew Md. Selimuddin, son of Mohammad Ali and sentenced them to suffer rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Tk.10 thousand each in default to suffer rigorous imprisonment for one year more on the same charge.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that on May 7, 2003 in the early morning the convicted persons in collaboration strangulated Abdul Latif, husband of 4 wives and father of 18 children, to death in connection with the prevailing enmity with him (deceased) over the
partition of the family land properties and concealed the dead body in an abandoned ditch of water, half a kilometre away from the place of occurrence. On the same day in the after noon the police being informed of the matter went to the spot, recovered the dead body and
sent the same to Bagerhat  Sadar Hospital for its autopsy. In this connection Md. Kamrul Islam, son of deceased Abdul Latif lodged a case with the local PS as the plaintiff.
Police investigated into the matter and submitted the charge sheet to the court  Khalilur Rahman who was awarded death penalty has been absconding and 2 out of other (3) convicted persons were present
at the time of delivering the judgment.
