New industrial units to be installed on the unused state-owned lands


Dhaka-New industrial units will be installed on the lands of unused state-owned industries on the basis of joint venture for diversification of products, industries minister Amir Hossain Amu said yesterday.“It would help to create an opportunity for value added tax for the diversification of products. Besides, such initiatives would turn the non-profitable state-owned industrial units into profitable,” he told reporters after a meeting on national council for industrial development (NCID) held at the Industries ministry.
Among others, senior industries ministry secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, agriculture ministry secretary Moinuddin Abdullah, energy division secretary Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, science and technology secretary Sirahul Haq Khan and representatives of commerce ministry, civil aviation and tourism ministry, expatriate ministry, environment and forest ministry, women and child affairs ministry, board of investment, national board of revenue, BSCIC, SME foundation, FBCCI, BEPZA and different chamber leaders attended the meeting.
The meeting also decided to strengthen the industrial process across the country, Amir Hossain Amu said, adding that they also discussed about the progress and implementation of decisions taken at NCID meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The also discussed about facility to increase of bank loans for cluster based industrial units, giving incentive agro-based industrial units, extension of ship construction, assistance for installation of environment friendly recycling industrial units, introduction of packaging law, introduction of one-stop service for small entrepreneurs at BSCIC and setting up anti-dumping mechanism for the sake of local industries, the industries minister said.
According to Amu, the meeting also decided to allocate fund infavour of SMEF for the small and medium entrepreneurs from the Bangladesh Bank’s Equity and Entrepreneurship Fund (EEF).
It also decided to formulate a policy for ship building immediately in a view to expedite the industrial sector, the industries minister said.
“The government is working to supply gas to industrial units as per its demand on a priority basis. The meeting has given emphasis to supply natural gas to industrial units and instead of domestic uses,” Amu said.
A modern industrial unit will be installed at Bogra for production of agricultural equipments, the minister said.
Problems will be resolved after identify the major barriers to flourishing the industrial sector, Amir Hossain Amu said.-STAFF REPORTER
