Dhaka-The Ninth Special Judge Court of Dhaka on Sunday deferred the charge hearing in the Niko graft case filed against 11 persons including Begum Khaleda Zia to October 17 following a time petition filed on behalf of BNP Chairperson.Judge Md Aminul Islam passed the order following a petition filed by Barrister Moudud Ahmed on behalf of the BNP Chief. The court deferred the charge hearing for the 9th time on Sunday.
Moudud himself is one of the accused persons. Other nine accused persons are former State Minister for Energy AKM Mosharraf Hossain, former acting energy secretary Khandaker Shahidul Islam, former Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Uddin Siddiqui, former senior assistant secretary CM Yusuf Hossain, former general manager Meer Moinul Haque of BAPEX, former Secretary Shafiur Rahman, businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun, Dhaka Club’s former President Selim Bhuiyan and Kashem Sharif, Vice President (South Asia) of Niko Resources Bangladesh Limited.
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case on December 9, 2007, during the military-backed caretaker regime and after the BNP Chief was arrested by the military-backed government. -Special Correspondent
