The ninth “Jatra Festival” will end today. The theatre festival for rural dramas started on November 21 at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. On each day three back-to-back dramas have been staged during the festival. The festival has been held by the Department of Dramatics and Motion Pictures of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy every year to implement the National Jatra Development Policy 2012. Under the policy each year a number of village drama troupes get official approval by a jury board. Till last year 101 troupes had been enlisted as recognisable theatre troupes.

Today dramas will be staged at 4.15pm, 5.15pm and 6.30pm. The first one to be performed will be “Nihoto Golap” by Shonar Desh Opera of Khulna, the following one would be “Charitrahin” by Sharbik Kalyan Natya Sangstha of Dhaka and lastly “Jail Theke Bolchi” will be performed by Moushumi Jatra Unit of Natore.

The jury board for approving drama troupes consists of Ramendu Mazumder, Nasiruddin Yousuff Bachchu, Mamunur Rashid, Dr Afsar Ahmed, SM Mohsin, Milon Kanti De, Tapas Sarkar, Victor Daniel, Jotsna Biswas and representatives from the Ministries of Law, Education and Culture.
