Police yet to identify the killers of Afsana, a college girl, murder, even after three days of the murder.
Earlier on Saturday, two unidentified youths brought the body of Afsana Ferdous,24, a final-year student of Architecture Technology at Mirpur’s SAIC Institute of Management and Technology at a hospital in the city.
Family members alleged that she was murdered in the city after being raped and strangled by two unidentified men who brought her at the hospital.Police officials are primarily suspecting that some marks in the body indicated that Afsana had was strangled with a rope after being raped.
Some staffs of the Al-Helal Hospital, where her body was brought, two men arrived at the hospital on an auto rickshaw and asked for a stretcher to admit Afsana admitt to the Emergency department.
When we were lifting onto the stretcher, the men escaped saying they had to pay the auto rickshaw fare. We wait few moment but never returned, they said.
Quoting the on-duty doctor of the hospital, police officials told that Afsana had died before she was brought at the hospital.
Doctors also informed police that they found marks on the neck.
But a series of anonymous phone calls to the victim’s family deepened the mystery behind her death.
According to a relative, Afsana’s mother – who lives in Thakurgaon – first received a phone call from an unknown number on Saturday night and was told that Afsana’s body was being kept at Dhanmondi’s Bangladesh Medical College Hospital.
However, when her relatives in the city went there in search of Afsana, they were told there was no body matching her description at the hospital.
Soon after, another anonymous caller phoned the family and said Afsana’s body was actually at Mirpur’s Al-Helal Hospital. But authorities at the Mirpur hospital said the body was now in custody of Kafrul police station.
When the family went to the police and showed a picture of Afsana, the on-duty policemen told them someone looking like her was at the morgue of Dhaka Medical College. Afsana’s maternal uncle and cousins identified her body at the DMC morgue at 3:am on Sunday.
DMCH authority carried out autopsy at the morgue and handed over the body to the family members. Later the body was buried at Thakurgaon.
Police sources said they filed a murder case after getting the primary autopsy report, which is expected within a couple of days.
According to the sources close with Afsana’s family a top leader of Awami League backed student organization Bangladesh Chattra League’s Tejgaon College unit, is a key suspect behind the rape and murder.
Afsana had affair with him but recently the relationship was broke up and Afsana left Tejgan area and shifted to city’s Manikdi area to avoid the BCL leader.
But some friends again reconnected them around ten days ago. Only two days before the murder, the affair again broke up. As a result, the BCL leader was threatening her to keep the relationship.
Even after the murder, he along with his family members and associates are threatening the victim’s family not to proceed with the killing.
Inspector Sikder Mohammad Shamim Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station said, they have already collected the video footage of the Al Helal Hospital and it’s adjacent area to identify the youths who brought the body of Afsana.
If we can detain them, the clue behind the murder would be known clearly.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Chattra Union, a left leaning student organization , organized a human chain at Shahbagh Intersection demanding the punishment of the killers.
Some local organizations also held protest rally at different districts. Some online activists are also raising voice against Afsana murder opening special event for her. – Staff Reporter
