Hefajat-e-Islam amir Allama Ahmed Shafi on Friday said they have no conflict with the government and the ruling Awami League.
“We’re not against Sheikh Hasina and Awami League,” he said while addressing the second session on the opening day of a two-day Shan-e-Risalat conference of the Islamist group at Laldighi Maidan in the port city. The Hefajat chief said they spoke and took to street against those who do not believe in Allah. “The atheists can’t stay in the country of the theists. We’ve taken to the street against them.”
He also observed that the country will turn into ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal) if all live with a sense of fraternity and if all shun the path of injustice, torture, killing and making people disappearance.
Earlier, Hefajat secretary general Allama Junayed Babunagari urged the government to get a bill passed in parliament with a provision of capital punishment for ‘atheists’.
Addressing the conference, Babunagri also said, “The people of all religious faiths, including Hindu, Buddha and Christian, can live in the country, except the atheists.”
Hefajat leaders Mahmudul Hasan, Azizul Hoque Islamabadi and Maulana Forkan Ahmed, among others, addressed the two-day conference.
