No smile in ministers’ faces: Oli Ahmed

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Col (retd) Oli Ahmed on Friday said the Awami League has been running the country with relatives and henchmen, not public representatives. “The faces of the ministers show disappointment as they fear the incumbent government won’t last long. There is no smile in the faces of ministers. Everywhere there are signs of frustration,” he said at the central council of Ganotantrik Mahila Dal at the Diploma Engineers Institute auditorium in the city. Oli Ahmed said: “In no way, the government can avoid the responsibility of the incidents of abduction, forced disappearance and killings.” Turning to the upazila elections, he said the government does not believe in people’s right to vote and alleged that the ruling party resorted to massive vote-rigging with the assistance of the administration. “Anarchy now prevails everywhere in the country, including in the political arena. If the government wants to restore peace in the country, it’ll have to give early general election following negotiation with the registered political parties,” said the LDP president. LDP presidium member Engr Kamal Uddin Mostafa and its secretary general Redwan Ahmed also spoke at the function, chaired by Ganotantrik Mahila Dal president Prof Karima Khatun. The council elected a 61-member new committee of Ganotantrik Mahila Dal with Karima Khatun and Luky Hossain as president and general secretary respectively. – UNB
