Awami League leaders at a discussion here today ruled out the possibility of holding any dialogue with BNP, saying the next parliament election will be held under the incumbent government as per the constitution.

“Election will be held as per the constitution. Polls will be held in no other way excepting in accordance with the constitution,” Awami League Advisory Council Member and Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu told a memorial meeting marking the Jail Killing Day at Krishibid Institution at Khamarbari in the city.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader delivered the welcome address while Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Mohammed Nasim, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Lt Col (Retd) Muhammad Faruq Khan and Adv. Abdul Matin Khasru, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Dhaka City South unit General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, among others, addressed it.

In her speech, Matia Chowdhury expressed her optimism that the people would once again vote Awami League to power in the coming polls.

Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim said there will be no supportive government during the next parliament election. “If BNP wants to join polls, it can join. If BNP does not want to join, the party can choose to take to streets. It is not a duty of Awami League to pursue BNP to join election,” he said adding that no talks will be held with BNP as they are “killers of 1971 and 1975”.

Terming BNP as an anti-liberation force, Selim urged the party leaders to remain united and stay alert against the evil forces.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Nasim said by threatening Awami League of waging movement would yield no results.

“Awami League is always champion in waging movement. The party is used to stay in the streets even after being tortured,” he said.

Obaidul Quader said the masterminds of the August 15 carnage and the November 3 assassination of four national leaders should be unmasked and brought to justice.
