Norwegian minister visits GPHouse

Norwegian Trade and Commerce Minister Trond Giske on Saturday visited GPHouse, the corporate headquarters of Grameenphone.Giske was accompanied by Norwegian Ambassador Ragne Birte Lund and Sigve Brekke, Chairman of Grameenphone Board and Head of Telenor Asia.
The Norwegian government is the majority owner of Telenor Group and Giske’s ministry is responsible for the company.
Vivek Sood, the CEO of Grameenphone, and his management team received the visiting minister and his entourage.
During the visit, the minister held meetings with Telenor and Grameenphone officials. He also met the employees.
Grameenphone arranged a special exhibition for the minister to present its journey to become the market leader of Bangladeshi telecom market, its role in connecting the unconnected people of the country and the development of the economy.
There were different stalls showcasing many activities of Grameenphone, including corporate responsibility initiatives.
The minister showed keen interest in Grameenphone’s innovative projects like Online School and Teledermatology.
He said: “Telecom industry has emerged as the key enabler to the socio-economic progress of Bangladesh. I’m happy to see Grameenphone and Telenor Group leading that industry not only in numbers but also with contribution to that development.”
Brekke termed Grameenphone as an important part of Telenor Group and said: “Grameenphone still has a significant role to play in the future development of the industry. The next big challenge is to provide every Bangladeshi with access to affordable data services, but we need a stable and investment-friendly regulatory regime.”UNB
