Siddhirganj thana unit Awami League on Saturday relieved its vice-president Nur Hossain and general secretary Yasin Miah from all activities of the party for their suspected involvement in the gruesome murder of seven people.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of Siddhirganj thana AL at its makeshift office in Pul area with its president Mujibur Rahman in the chair.
The meeting also recommended expulsion of the two leaders from the party.“The recommendation for his expulsion has been sent to the central Awami League for the final decision,” said Mujibur Rahman.
Nur Hossain, also a councilor of Narayangnaj City Corporation and the prime accused in the murder case, and another accused Yasin remained absconding since the gruesome murders.
Meanwhile, police recovered huge weapons and drugs during a raid on a truck stand controlled by Nur Hossain at Shimrail in Siddhirganj on Friday afternoon.
During the 90-minute drive, the law enforcers recovered over 22 daggers, three machetes, 2,824 bottles of Phensidyl syrup, huge Yaba tablets and nine bottles of foreign liquor.
Nur Hossain, also president of the thana chapter of inter-district truck drivers union, used to control the drug trading in the area from the truck stand.
Earlier, on May 3, police arrested 16 people and seized a microbus from the house Nur Hossian. Besides, on May 5, the district administration revoked the licences of 11 firearms of Nur Hossain.
On April 27, Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver, were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of the city. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.
Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30.
Besides, another body, believed to be of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on May 1. – UNB
