OMS programme creating positive impact in Gaibandha


Fortified Atta selling under government’s Open Market Sale (OMS) programme continues at Gaibandha Municipality creating positive impact to the poor.Office sources said the government has been conducting the OMS programme in the municipality area for few months last in a bid to control its high market prices and help the poor people.Food office sources said a total of 9 sale centers have been set up in the town where 9 tonnes of fortified atta are being sold everyday except Saturday.Each of the consumers is allowed to purchase 5-kg of rice or atta from the center and the price of per kg of rice and atta has been fixed at Taka 22, said M Alam Miah, a dealer of the office.Mokshed Ali, a dweller of the municipality, said the programme had created positive impacts to the poor as they were purchasing atta from the centres at reasonable prices fixed by the government.He also urged the government to open more OMS outlets in other parts of the district so that the poor could purchase the staple easily from there without any trouble and disturbance.Talking to the BSS district food controller M. Amzad Hossain said the programme would continue till starting the harvest of T-Aman paddy of the current season.BSS, Gaibandha
