Ostrich hatch chicks at Bamgabandhu Safari Park


Dhaka – For the second time in the country’s history, three baby ostriches hatched from eggs at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur.Out of 8 eggs, two babies were born on Wednesday and another on Monday, said Anisur Rahman, wildlife inspector of the park.

“The babies were born healthy and their condition was stable.Now the number of ostrich in the Safari Park stood at 10,” he said.

Ostrich is the largest living species of bird and lays the largest eggs of any living bird, said the wildlife inspector. “In 2013, six ostriches of two and a half years old each were brought from South Africa. Of those, there were 2 male and 4 female birds.”

For the first time, a baby ostrich was born at Bangabandhu Safari Park on January 16, 2017.

Another wildlife inspector of the park, Sarwar Hossain Khan, said the mother ostrich has hatched a total of eight eggs for about 40 days and three babies came out. “We are expecting more babies will come out from rest of the eggs.”“Now the babies are kept under intensive observation,” he added.UNB
