Padma Bridge construction will be visible from Dec: Obaidul

The construction of Padma Multi-purpose Bridge will be visible from December and January months, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader told Parliament yesterday.The work for setting spans on piers of the Padma Bridge will began in December and January next. The nation then will witness the construction of much expected bridge, he said while replying to a supplementary question from Awami League lawmaker Advocate Navana Akhter.
The Minister further said 38 per cent construction of the Padma bridge has already been completed.
The sitting of 12th session began at about 5:10pm with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin chaudhury in the chair.
Replying to another supplementary question from AL lawmaker Advocate Sanjida Khanom, Quader said the government is going to implement country’s 55-km first expressway from Dolairpar point of Mayor Hanif Flyover to Bhanga of Faridpur via Buriganga-1 bridge, Mawa and Padma bridge.
He said a number of flyovers will also be built under the expressway project along with service lanes to expedite the road communication of south-western part of the country.
The Road Transport Minister told another questioner that the government would take a coordinated effort to ease the congestion in the capital.
He put emphasis on the need to main rules and regulation in plying transports in the city and leaving the footpaths for the pedestrians.
On road accidents, he said the number of road accident during the first eight months of the year has been reduced to half then previous time.
He however assured the House that the government is working to ensure safety in the highways by identifying black spots.-Staff REPORTER
