Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday said a permanent Pay Commission for recommending raising the salaries and allowances of the government officials and employees will be formed by November 15. At the same time, a Pay and Services Commission will be formed to identify salary discrimination between various BSC cadres and departments and put forward necessary recommendations to remove the disparity, he said. The tenure of the Pay and Services Commission will be six months and the chairman of the Pay Commission will be its chief, Muhith said, adding that the tenure may be extended if necessary. An individual pay scale will also be formed for the employees of Bangladesh Bank and the state-run banks, he said. The minister came up with the revelation while talking to the journalists after a meeting with a delegation of Bangladesh Audit and Account Officers’ Association at his office. On October 6, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced that the government has decided to provide 20 percent dearness allowance to the government officials and employees apart from constituting a permanent pay commission. The following day, the government published a gazette providing 20 percent dearness allowance for the government servants with effect from July 1. Turning to the election issue, Muhith said the next general election will be held in mid January. – UNB
