Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived here on Sunday afternoon en route to Bulgaria on a three-day official visit to Bulgarian capital Sofia to attend the Global Women Leaders’ Forum.A VVIP flight (BG-005) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage reached Heathrow International Airport around 4pm (British Time).
Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Abdul Hannan received the Prime Minister at the airport along with other high commission officials.
Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy was present at the airport.
Later, a large number of leaders and activists of Awami League’s UK unit, led by its president Sultan Mahmud Shareef, greeted her with flowers.
Earlier, the VVIP flight of Biman took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for the British capital at 10:30am.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Chief Whip ASM Feroz, PM’s Information Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Chiefs of the three services, PM’s Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad, among others, saw the Prime Minister off at the airport.
Sheikh Hasina would leave London for the Bulgarian capital of Sofia by a British Airways flight (BA 0890) at 8:20 am (London time) on May 18.
The flight is scheduled to land at Sofia International Airport at 1:15pm (Bulgaria time).
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki will accompany the Prime Minister during her tour to Bulgaria.
Minister of Culture of Bulgaria Vezhdi Rashidov, Executive Director, the Council of Woman in Business in Bulgaria Vanya Kaneva and Bangladesh Ambassador in Sofia Allama Siddiki will receive Sheikh Hasina at the airport.
After the reception at the airport, the Prime Minister would be taken to Hotel Marinela Sofia through a ceremonial motorcade where she will be staying during her visit to Bulgaria.
Apart from joining the forum, the Prime Minister would hold official talks and tete-e-tete with her Bulgarian counterpart Boyko Borissov.
She will attend the opening ceremony of the Global Women Leaders Forum in the afternoon at the National Art Gallery, Sofia, the same day (May 18) and deliver the keynote speech as the chief guest.
Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Policy Ivaylo Kalfin, Minister of Energy Temenuzka Petkova, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova, Unesco Director-General Irina Bokova, Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Bulgaria Tsetska Tsacheva and CEO, Siemens Bulgaria and Chairperson of Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria Boriana Manolova will also deliver statements in the event.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will call on Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev at the Presidential Palace. Foreign Ministry sources said after the official talks on May 20, the two Prime Ministers will witness signing of agreements and they will deliver a joint press statement later.
Sheikh Hasina will join a gala dinner to be hosted by Irina Bokova and Boriana Manolova, the CEO of Siemens Bulgaria and the chairperson of Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria, at Grand Hotel Sofia. Tsetska Tsacheva Dangovska, the president of the National Parliament of Bulgaria, will host a working luncheon in honour of the Bangladesh Prime Minister at Grand Hotel Sofia. Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to return home on May 21 at 6.30 am (BST).
