PM seeks Chinese cooperation to build Bangladesh

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday sought Chinese cooperation in Bangladesh’s bid to become a developed and prosperous nation by 2041. The premier’s request came when 15-member delegation of Chinese armed forces led by Air Chief Marshal Xu Qiliang called on her at her official residence Ganobhaban, her special assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil told reporters. She appreciated the cooperation of China in developing infrastructure in Bangladesh, according to Shakil. Shakil said the prime minister told the delegation that the neighbouring countries should follow economic development of China. She also said her government expects that the good relation between the armed forces of the two countries would get stronger. She hoped that the construction of the trans-Asian highway through China, Myanmar and Bangladesh will be completed soon. This, she said, will boost the trade between Bangladesh and China. Hasina hoped the countries of the region will help each other establish friendly regional environment and strengthen economic activities of the area. She said that the friendly relation between Bangladesh and China go deep. She mentioned Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s visit to China that the great leader mentioned in his book ‘The unfinished memoirs’. The Prime Minister invited Chinese President and Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh at their convenient time. Qiliang, who is also the vice chairman of CPC central Military Commission, said his country wants add a new dimension to the friendly relations between Dhaka and Beijing. Xu Qiliang assured that the Chinese government would provide support to Bangladesh’s steps in modernization of its armed forces. He said his delegation seeks to further develop the relation between the armed forces of the two countries. It will have a positive impact on the state relations between Dhaka and Beijing, he said.
