PM to open Bahaddarhat flyover Saturday

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Bahaddarhat and Dewanhat flyovers in Chittagong tomorrow (Saturday), opening those for traffic soon after the formal inauguration. “The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Bahaddarhat flyover at 10:30 am,” Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Abdus Salam told UNB over phone. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the project in 2010 and the project work started in 2011, said the CDA chairman adding that some Tk 145 crore was spent in implementing the project. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister will inaugurate on Saturday a total of 11 projects in Chittagong worth a total of Tk 600 crore. Hasina is also expected to lay the foundation stone of the 5.2km flyover from Muradpur to Lalkhan Bazar in the port city. The Muradpur-Lalkhan Bazar flyover project, worth Tk 462 crore, was approved in a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on October 1. During her visit to the port city on Saturday, the Prime Minister will address a meeting of eminent personalities on the premises of Jamiatul Falah Mosque where some 6 thousand people are expected to take part. She will also inaugurate a mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the Chittagong Press Club. The projects that will be inaugurated in the port city and Chittagong districts are Oxygen-Kuwaish Road, Dewanhat Overpass, Saltgola Working Women’s Dormitory, Dhaka Trunk Road (Alongkar-Dewanhat), Arkan Road, Hathazari Rooad, Pathantuli Road, College Road, CDA Girls School and College, Biponi Bitan, Patiya Municipality Building, Fatikchhari Community Center, and 25MW dual fuel power plant in Raozan. The Prime Minister will attend functions at Chittagong Cantonment and Bangladesh Naval Academy and inaugurate the BMA Bangabandhu Complex. Meanwhile, party leaders and activists have taken preparations to welcome Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Chittagong. Chittagong Metropolitan Police has taken necessary security measures for ensuring foolproof security during the PM’s stay in Chittagong. – UNB
