PM urges Netherlands investment in Bangladesh


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the Netherlands to invest in Bangladesh and import ‘world-class’ products from the country.She made the appeal when Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Lilianne Ploumen called on her in The Hague on Wednesday.She said Dutch companies could invest in Bangladesh’s medicine, leather, light engineering, recyclable energy, infrastructure, shipping and agriculture, her Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said.Hasina also urged the country to import medicines, bicycle, jute, frozen food, and ceramic products from Bangladesh.Ploumen praised the Bangladesh government for taking steps to ensure safe workplace for garment factory workers.She also lauded Bangladesh for achieving the Millennium Development Goals.Hasina thanked her for the country’s initiative to organise a conference in Bangladesh to ensure fair price of readymade garments.

Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment Melanie Schultz van Haegen later also called on Hasina.The Duth minister spoke about reclaiming land from water and water management.They also spoke about the ‘Delta Plan 2100’, to be implemented in Bangladesh with the help of the Netherlands.Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and State Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Nazrul Islam, among others, were also present at the meetings.
