PM witnesses design of proposed Kabi Nazrul Bhaban

A power point presentation on the proposed Kabi Nazrul Bhaban to be built at Dhanmondi in the capital was held at the Prime Minister’s Office here today.Architects Iqbal Habib and Ishtiak Zahir made the power point presentation before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.After the presentation, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.The press secretary said the two architects apprised the prime minister of various features and facilities of the proposed eight-storey building.Karim said during the briefing the prime minister gave some suggestions about the building to be constructed on the Nazrul Institute Bhaban premises at Dhanmondi Road No. 28 in the capital.Sheikh Hasina also recalled her visit to the birthplace of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at Churulia of the Indian State of West Bengal during her tenure in 1996-2001 which was the first visit to the site by a first head of the government f any country.Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, PM’s Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman of the Trustee Board of Nazrul Institute Professor Emeritus Dr Rafiqul Islam, PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum and Cultural Affairs Secretary Begum Akhtari Momtaz were present during the power point presentation.Dr Rafiqul Islam said it was Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who brought Poet Nazrul in Bangladesh in 1972 and gave the title of the National Poet of the country to him.Besides, he said, the Bangabandhu government had taken all the responsibilities for looking after the ailing National Poet.While talking about the design, Architect Iqbal Habib said they want to turn Nazrul Institute into a complex connecting the proposed eight-storey building with the existing building of the institute.For the purpose, he said, the existing five-storey building of the institute will be reconstructed and expanded to a six-storey building.Iqbal Habib mentioned that the entire complex would be constructed keeping an open space and stage, and the complex would be looking like Rabindra Sarobar as it would be linked with nearby Dhanmondi Lake.
