Police have arrested two men for their suspected connection to the murder of four children in Habiganj’s Bahubal Upazila.Abdul Ali and ‘Jewel’, of Sundrateki village, were nabbed on Wednesday evening, Bahubal police OC Mosharraf Hossain said.The bodies of the four boys, buried under heaps of soil, were recovered earlier in the morning at a desiccated swamp in the village.They had gone missing on Friday.Four children who went missing five days ago at Habiganj’s Bahubal have been found dead.
Police said some parts of their bodies, buried under heaps of soil, were spotted by locals at Sundrateki village on Wednesday morning.The bodies have been unearthed and sent to the morgue at the Zila Sadar Hospital, said Bahubal Model Police Station OC Mosharraf Hossain.The boys are Monir Mia, 7, Zakaria Ahmed Shubho, 8, Tajel Mia, 10 and Ismail Hossain, 10. They were reported missing on Friday. They had gone to play in a field next to their home.
Monir, Zakaria and Tajel were cousins who went to Sundrateki Primary School. Ismail, their neighbour, studied at Sundrateki madrasa. Zakaria’s father filed a general diary with Bahubal police after a search for the boys yielded no results. The children were probably buried in that spot after being murdered at a different location, said Superintendent of Police Joydev Kumar Bhadra. Autopsies will reveal when they were killed, he said.
“It looks like it could have been the work of rivals. We’ll learn more after we talk to their families.”Meanwhile, Sylhet Police DIG Mizanur Rahman, who visited the site, announced a Tk 100,000 reward for anyone who finds the killers. “An executive magistrate and Bahubal’s Upazila executive officer (UNO) were sent to the spot as soon as the news came in he said” Habiganj Additional District Magistrate Imran Hossain.
