Police identifies Tahmid’s voice in IS video footage

The voice recorded in the video footage, released allegedly by Islamic State(IS) on Dhaka café attackers on September 23, is the voice of Tahmid Rahman Safi, said Monirul Islam, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).Monirul, also the chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of DMP, came up with the information while talking to reporters at the DMP media centre on Monday.
“After examining the video footage through a software it is found that the voice that narrated the video footage of IS was the voice of Tahmid Rahman Safi, an alleged IS member, not that of Tahmid Hasib Khan,” he said.
Earlier, on September 23, the Islamic State released a video footage from Bangladesh for the first time about the Holey Artisan attackers, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, a US-based organisation.
The CTTC Chief said getting information from different sources it is known that Tahmid Rahman Safi is a son of former Chief Election Commissioner Shafiur Rahman and he is staying in Syria now. He will be arrested once he comes back, he said.
Monirul Islam said Tahmid Hasib Khan, a Toronto University student, who was released on bail on Sunday is not accused in the Gulshan attack. He was arrested on charge of concealing information and not cooperating with police, he added.
