Police raid Khoka’s house twice in 24 hours

The BNP has alleged police have raided the residence of one of its leaders Sadeque Hossain Khoka for the second time after he had called for ‘armed resistance’ against any government attempt to prevent the party’s planned Oct 25 rally in Dhaka.
“A group of policemen went to Khoka’s Gopibagh residence around noon today (Tuesday),” claimed the party’s Dhaka Metropolitan unit leader Jahangir Alam.
“They searched the house and quizzed the people there,” he told journalists.
Alam said Khoka was not at home during the time.
The BNP had earlier complained police had raided the party Vice Chairman’s residence on Monday night.
Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi during an emergency press briefing held on Monday night said the former Dhaka City Corporation Mayor was not at home during the raid. “The way they [police]behaved apparently he [Khoka] would have been arrested had he been at home,” Rizvi had claimed.
Khoka on Monday urged party activists to be prepared with sharp weapons and sticks to thwart any possible Awami League attack on BNP leaders and activists anywhere.
Rizvi had said Khoka was under fire as he had spoken strongly against the government.
The BNP has complained the government was harassing opposition activists by conducting police raids in a bid to thwart the BNP’s Oct 25 rally.

UNB adds: Plainclothes police raided the Gopibagh residence of BNP’s Dhaka City unit convener Sadeque Hossain Khoka on Tuesday noon in an apparent bid to arrest him.
The raid was conducted following Khoka’a Monday’s call to BNP leaders and activists to get ready with sharp weapons to resist attacks on BNP’s scheduled October 25 mass rally in city.
Addressing the meeting organised by city BNP at Bhasani Auditorium, Khoka said, “The preparation will have to be taken on two issues — making the rally a success and resisting any possible attacks. We won’t attack first. If Awami League comes with something to kill people, they’ll be resisted at any cost.”
DB sources said a special DB team along with members from Motijheel thana police went to Khoka’s house after 12:30 pm and was looking for Khoka, but he was not there in the house.
Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel division Ashrafuzzaman admitted that the DB police conducted the raid.
“The raid was conducted following instruction from the higher authorities,” said a top police official preferring not to be named.
