Prime accused Nur Hossain’s aide arrested in Jessore

Police have arrested an aide of Nur Hossain in connection with the multiple murders at Narayanganj.
Hasmat Ali Hasu, cashier to the fugitive councillor and prime accused Nur Hossain, was arrested from Jessore on Tuesday night, state minister for home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told on Wednesday.
Police are trying to check whether Hasu was trying to escape to India as he had fled to Jessore.Hasu, who hails from Mijmiji of Siddhirganj, was the third listed as accused in the case filed by the wife of Nazrul Islam, the Ward-2 councillor who was abducted and killed along with four of his aides.
Senior local lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and his driver were also abducted from the city’s court premises on Apr 27.
Three days later, the bodies of the seven men were found floating on Sitalakhyya River.
Ward-4 Councillor Nur Hossain, Nazrul’s arch-rival, is absconding and there are speculations that he might have fled to India.
Nazrul’s relatives alleged that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), which is blamed for the murders for a huge bribe, have also helped Hossain escape.
But the RAB has denied the charge.
Three officers of RAB-11 including its commander ex-Lt Col Tarek Sayeed were removed from the elite force even before the bodies were found.
They were eventually sent on forced retirement after being accused of carrying out the murders.
The RAB ordered an internal probe to check on allegations that the three officers carried out the murders.
A High Court order for their arrest is yet to be implemented.
Hossain, who rose from being a transport worker to city councillor, had set up a booming illegal sand trade on the banks of Sitalakhyya.
