Pro-AL panel sweeps JU Senate polls

Savar, Dhaka, 01 January – A fraction of ruling Awami League-backed panel swept the Senate elections of Jahangirnagar University (JU), held on Saturday.Aspirants from the ‘Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswashi Pragotishil Jote’ won a total of 18 seats of registered graduates’ representatives out of 25 while BNP-backed ‘Swadhinata- sarbabhoumatwa, Bahudalia Ganatantra O Bangladeshi Jatiatabadey Biswashi Panel’ bagged only 6.
Another AL-leaning ‘Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Bishwashi Pragotishil Graduate Mancha’ secured only one seat in the senate.
Out of 4,373 voters, a total of 3,646 casted their votes between 9:00am and 4:00pm at JU Social Sciences Faculty and New Arts Faculty buildings.
Returning officer Prof Sheikh Monzurul Huq, also the treasurer of the university, announced the results yesterday morning.
Graduate representatives from ‘Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswashi Progotishil Jote’ are: KH. Mahid Uddin, Md. Kaikobad Hossain, Professor Shariff Enamul Kabir, Professor Dr. Mohammad Alamgir Kabir, Mohammad Sohel Parvez, Ashish Kumar Majumder, Shamima Sultana,
Krishna Gayen, Prithila Nazeen Nilima, Mahabbat Hossain Khan, Sheikh Monowar Hossain, Md. Motaher Hossain, Abul Kalam Azad, Mohammad Mehedi Zamil, Md. Ebaidullah Talukder, Induprova Das, Md. Masudur Rahman and Md. Anowar Hossain Mirdha.
Meanwhile, Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan, Prof Dr. Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Prof Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, Shamima Sultana, Md. Shamsul Alam and Sabina Yesmin won from BNP-backed ‘Swadhinata-sarbabhoumatwa, Bahudalia Ganatantra O Bangladeshi Jatiatabadey Biswashi Panel’ and while Prof Md. Abdul Mannan Chowdhury won from ‘Bangabandhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswashi Progotishil Graduate Mancha’. – JU Correspondent
