Probe body leader in N’ganj 7-murder case changed

The High Court has ordered a change in the probe committee formed to investigate the Narayanganj seven-murder incident.
Additional Secretary of Ministry of Public Administration Md Abdul Hakim has been appointed the committee’s new chief.
Seven men, including former Narayanganj City councillor Nazrul Islam, were abducted on Apr 27. Their bodies were found floating in the Shitalakhya River several days later. The decision came following the committee’s previous head Shahjahan Ali Molla’s shift in office.
Committee’s member Secretary Abul Kashem Mohiuddin told of the change on Tuesday.
“Our work is almost done. We will submit a report to the court any time now. We will settle the matter after discussing it with the new chief,” he said.
Nazrul’s family alleges that local Awami League leader Nur Hossain paid RAB Tk 60 million for carrying out the abductions and murders. A case was filed with Nur Hossain as the prime suspect.
The High Court ordered, on May 7, the formation of a probe committee. It has been tasked to find out if the law enforcers were involved in the murders in any way or whether they were negligent in rescuing the abductees.
The committee, headed by Molla, recorded statements of over 400 people, including Narayanganj City Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, Awami League MP Shamim Osman, RAB Director General Mokhlesur Rahman, Additional Director General Col Ziaul Ahsan.
Molla was appointed the acting Public Service Commission (PSC) secretary on Nov 9. The investigation came to a standstill with Molla becoming busy with his new post.
So the the Public Administration Ministry decided to change the committee leader. –
