Probe to clarify if Bagmara mosque blast was suicide attack: Minister

Dhaka – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Saturday said it will be clear after investigation whether the Bagmara Ahmadiyya mosque bomb blast was a suicide attack or not.
“It’s not clear yet whether it’s a suicide bomb blast or not, and it’ll be known after investigation,” he said while talking to reporters after attending the annual general meeting of Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) at Dhaka Reporters Unity. The Home Minister said, “Two unidentified people went to the mosque for offering prayers. One of them died during the blast while another managed to flee the scene. I think the man who was killed in the bomb blast might had been carrying the bomb. It might have exploded accidentally while offering prayers.”
“Anyway, it will be detected who actually carried out the bomb attack,” he said.
A suspected young man was killed and eight others injured in a bomb blast at an Ahmadiyya mosque in Mochmoil area of Bagmara upazila on Friday.
Police on Friday night filed a case against some unidentified people in connection with Friday’s suicide bomb attack on the Ahmadiyya mosque in Mochmoil area in Bagmara upazila of the district.
Officer-in-charge of the Baghmara Police Station Matiar Rahman confirmed this to UNB.
A suspected suicide bomber was killed and 8 others injured in the suicide bomb attack an the Ahmadiyya mosque in Mochmoil area of Bagmara upazila on Friday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.
Police said the bomb suddenly went off when the attacker tried to free it from his waist in a bid to detonate it while devotees were offering their Juma prayers in the mosque of the Ahmadiyya community, leaving him dead on the spot.
Ten devotees were also injured in the incident.
Of them, critically injured — Moyez Uddin, 40, son of Bolai Talukdar, Sayeb Ali, 36, son of late Talukdar, and Nayan ,12, son of Mukul Hossain of Syedpur area of the upazila–were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).- UNB
