Demand notes for recruitment Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia are likely to start arriving in Dhaka from next week, according to sources in the expatriates welfare and overseas employment. The government expects that it would be able to start the process to send workers to Malaysia from later this month or early December, said the sources.
“We hope that the door for labour market in Malaysia will reopen soon. It will be possible to complete the process with maintaining cent per cent transparency,” said Minister for Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Islam.
Talking to a group of journalists at his office yesterday, he reiterated that Bangladeshi workers would start going to Malaysia through formal channel within the next two weeks.
The Malaysian government verbally said that they would recruit Bangladeshi manpower and we will be able to send Bangladeshi workers after receiving demand notes, he said.
The export of manpower to Malaysia has remained almost closed for about seven years despite sometimes announcement of sending manpower under Government to Government and Government to Government Plus agreements but nothing worked.
The minister said the two governments agreed to send manpower to Malaysia in particular construction, plantation and manufacturing sectors.
Asked how many workers could be sent to Malaysia, the minister said it would depend on demand notes.
The minister made the comments a day after the meeting with his Malaysia counterpart in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The Malaysian minister for human resources, Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem, who left Dhaka yesterday assured the Bangladesh minister of recruiting Bangladeshi workers for Malaysia very soon.
On February 18, Bangladesh and Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the ‘G2G plus’ system to take in 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers to the southeast Asian nation over the next three years. -TAFF REPORTER
