Prosecutors seek Khaleda’s life imprisonment

Dhaka, Oct 23 – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Tuesday sought life term imprisonment for BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia increasing the five-year sentence granted her in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Meanwhile, the prosecution demanded that the five-year imprisonment delivered by the trial court be upheld.
The lawyers for the ACC and state made their urges in the High Court bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mustafizur Rahman during the appeal hearing in the case on Tuesday.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the ACC and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.
Meanwhile, the court turned down the petition placed by Khaleda Zia’s lawyer seeking time.
The Dhaka Special Court-5 convicted the former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
She was then sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city on February 8. – Special Correspondent
