Protesting the brutal murder of publisher Faysal Arefin Dipan, different organizations held demonstration rally, human chain, and issued separate statements and programmes on Sunday.Book shop owners and businessmen of Aziz Co-operative Super Market in Shahbagh have decided to remain closed the market till Tuesday while Bangladesh book and publishers Association has declared to close all book shops across the country till 2:00pm on Monday in protest against the murder of one of their colleague Dipan, owner of Jagriti Prokashani in Dhaka.
Aziz shops owners came out at the announcement from a demonstration rally organized in front of the market at noon.
Speaking at the rally, Nazmul Hasan, president of the Aziz Cooperative super market traders’ welfare Society Ltd, said the killers of Dipan should be brought to justice immediately.
Criticizing the incident of repeated murder in the country recently, He urged the government to take enough initiatives so that none could see this type of brutal murder in future.
Later, agitating businessman brought out a protest procession from Shabagh and then took part at the Namaz-e-Janaza of the killed publisher held at the central Mosque of the Dhaka University after Zohar prayer. He was buried at Azimpur Graveyards in the capital later.
On the other hand, over 200 people under the banner of Teachers-Students, writers and citizens gathered at the Razu sculpture and later they held a protest rally.
Speaking at the rally, noted columnist Sayed Abul Maksud blamed the culture of impunity for the repeated murder.
He alleged that the people in the country are losing their confidence to the government gradually, which is a terrible sign for both the people and the government for an independent country.
In his speech, DU International Relations department associate professor Tanzimuddin Khan alleged that the government is destroying the true image of democracy in every sector and that is the reason why people are losing their confidence.

On the other hand Gonojagoron mancha spokesman Imran H Sarker gave a 48 hours ultimatum to detain the assassins otherwise gonojagoron mancha will observe a half day hortal on 3rd October (Tuesday).
While speaking at a protest rally at Shahabag intersection Imran called to all the educational institutions of the country to observe today (Monday) mourn.
Imran said that “we elected the government by voting but they are totally failed to give us safety”.
Mancha also held a protest rally which started from Sahabag and rounding the DU campus it ended up at the same place.
Earlier, publisher Faysal Arefin Dipan was found stabbed dead yesterday at his publishing house office situated on the second-floor of the Aziz Market hours after assailants stabbed Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, proprietor of Shuddhoswar.
On the same day, Tutul along with Ranadipam Basu and Tareque Rahim came under the machete attacks at the Lalmatia office of Shuddhoswar. Tareque was also shot in the chest.
