Dhaka, July 15 – The ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said it will be clear in October whether or not their arch-rival BNP will join the next general elections scheduled to be held in the yearend. About the attack on the protesters of quota reform movement, Quader refuted the involvement of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the series attacks on the quota protesters.
“At present, there is no committee of BCL, so we will have to figure out whether BCL activists were involved in the recent attacks or miscreants were involved in those attack in the name of BCL men,” he said.
He also called upon the quota-reform protesters to have patience and faith on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
About the party BNP, AL general secretary said BNP has now become a self-declared corrupt political party by scrapping section 7 of its party constitution.
“This is not the high time to tell about BNP whether the party will participate in the next national elections,” he said this while addressing a press conference at the party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office in the city.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said there is a dispute among the BNP leaders whether they will join the next polls or not but the next elections will be held in due time as per the constitutional guidelines.
“Time and Tide wait for none…similarly the next election train will not wait for BNP. The next polls will be held on time as in other democratic countries,” he said.
Meanwhile, the party is preparing to accord a mass reception to the prime minister and party’s president Sheikh Hasina on July 21 for her ‘glorious success’ in ruling the country.
The reception will be given at Suhrawardy Udyan at 3:00pm on that day.
Among others, AL joint general secretaries Dipu Moni, Abdur Rahman, its organizing secretaries Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, BM Mozzammel Haque, and office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap. – Staff Reporter
