Rail communications of the northern region with the rest of the country, including the capital, resumed on Friday, after two days of
suspension following the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Parbatipur upazila.
Dinajpur Railway assistant engineer Ariful Islam said the rail communications on Parbatipur-Dinajpur route resumed around 12 noon as
an alternative route was arranged along the main one.
Railway sources said a bridge was being constructed over the Chota Jamuna River at Monmathpur on the rail route whereby alternative
arrangements were made for running trains.
However, incessant rains for the last few days removed the earth from beneath the alternative rail route, forcing the authorities to run
trains over the under-construction bridge.
But, the bridge broke down on Wednesday morning with one of its pillars subsiding, bringing the rail communications of Dinajpur,
Panchagarh and Thakurgaon districts with the rest of the country into a total halt. – UNB
