National Award winning actor Rajkumar Rao’s acclaimed political satire Newton has been confirmed as India’s first official entry for the Oscars 2018. Helmed by Amit Masurkar, Newton which released today is already said to be one of the best films of the year 2017.
Rajkummar Rao plays the role of Newton Kumar, a presiding officer who is determined to hold a free and fair election in a village in Chhattisgarh despite the threat of Naxalite violence.
The Film Federation Of India’s (FFI) selection committee unanimously chose the film as India’s official entry to the Oscars and confirmed the same in an official statement.
“‘Newton’ has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. It was unanimously chosen from 26 entries this year,” revealed FFI secretary general Supran Sen, reports internet.
