Robber’ injured in ‘gunfight’ with cops


An alleged robber was injured in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Chalkidanga village in Manirampur upazila of Jessore district early Wednesday.The injured was identified as Akbar Ali, son of Abdus Sattar, a resident of Pardia area of the upazila.Officer-in-charge of Manirampur Police Station Taherul Islam said on a tip-off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police launched a drive there at about 1:45 am.Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire at them, prompting the police personnel to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, leaving Akbar injured with bullets.Later, police arrested Akbar while his other associates managed to flee the scene.Injured Akbar was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital under police custody.Police also recovered a pipe-gun and two bullet shells from the spot. -UNB, Benapole
