‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ in Chittagong


An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight between his cohorts and police at Jungle Gunagori in Banshkhali upazila early Monday. Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.Officer-in-charge of Banshkhali Police Station Swapan Kumar said a
gang of armed robbers entered the house of Belal Master breaking the door open at about 1:15am.As the inmates tried to resist, the robbers stabbed them with sharp weapons, leaving seven of the inmates injured.Meanwhile, police was informed about the robber attack and rushed to the area.As the law enforcers encircled the house, the robbers opened fire at
police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.At one stage, the unidentified robber was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee from the scene.Two policemen – assistant sub-inspector Ashraf and constable Anwar –
were injured during the gunfight.Later, police recovered the body of the deceased and sent it to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.Police also recovered one light gun and 10 bullet shells from the spot.Police arrested Forkan, a construction worker of Belal’s house, in connection with the incident. –UNB, Chittagong
