Robber killed in ‘gunfight’ with rivals in Teknaf

An alleged robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with his rivals in No-14 Bridge area of the bank of the Naf River in Teknaf upazila early Sunday.The deceased was identified as Sayed Nur Prakash Sona Miah,35, son of Shikder Ali, a
resident of Uluchamari village of the upazila.Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Ataur Rahman Khandaker said two local robber gangs had long been at loggerheads over robbery in the area.Later, a group of robbers opened fire to another robber gang, forcing the robbers to fire back, triggering a gunfight at about 4.00am, leaving Sona Miah dead on the spot.Informed, police rushed to the spot at about 7:00 am on Sunday and recovered the body of Sona while members of both the robber gangs managed to flee the scene.The law enforcers also recovered two pistols and eight cartridges from the spot.
The body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital orgue for an autopsy. -UNB , Cox’s Bazar
