‘Robber’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’ with Rab


Dhaka – An alleged robber was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on the Kushtia-Meherpur highway in Moshan Bazar area of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia early Sunday, UNB news agency reported.
The deceased was identified as Mukul Munshi, 45, son of Yusuf Munshi, a resident of Paschim Bahirchar Barmile village of Bheramara upazila and a member of an inter-district robber gang.He was also accused in six robbery cases with different police stations of, including Bheramara police station.
Commander Major Mosaddek Ibne Mujib of Rab-12 said on secret information that a gang of robbers numbering 7-8 were taking preparation for committing robbery, a team of the Rab conducted a drive in the area around 3am.
Sensing presence of the Rab force, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.
The gun battle left Mukul dead on the spot while his other associates managed to flee away.
Rab recovered a pistol, a magazine, two rounds of bullet and two machetes from the scene.
The body was sent to Kushtia General Hospital for an autopsy.
