Rajshahi University Teachers Association (RUTA) observed a day-long work-abstention and sit-in programme on Saturday protesting what its leaders termed devaluation of university teachers’ in proposed national 8th pay scale.

As part of the programme, the teachers of different departments observed a two-hour sit-in from 10.00am to 12.00noon in front of Senate building.RUTA general secretary Dr. Rezaul Karm Badal moderated the programme with RUTA president Professor Dr Ananda Kumar Shaha in the chair.
Professsor Shatil Siraj of Mass-Communication and Journalism department, Professor Dr Jahidur Rahman of Computer Science and Engineering dept, Professor Ruhul Amin of Political Science dept, Professor Shahidul Haque of Islamic History and Culture among others spoke on the occasion.
The speakers demanded same pay-scale for university teachers and like that of government secretaries reinstation of the time-scale and selection grade which would put senior Professors at the same level of the senior secretaries.
They also demanded for upgrading the rank of Vice Chancellor as principal secretary or cabinet division secretary, determination of salary structure of associate professors, assistant professors, and lecturers including guarantee of their status and reasonable salary. – RU Correspondent
