Teachers of Rajshahi University on Monday observed a sit-in programme for one hour on campus demanding of the selection grades and the timescales and removal of disparities from the new pay structure.Over one hundred and fifty teachers under the banner of Rajshahi University Teachers’ Association staged a sit-in programme for one hour in front of university senate building to press home their demands from 11:00am to 12:00pm.
Addressing the sit-in programme, RUTA president Professor Ananda Kumar Saha said the dignity of them had been disgraced by abolishing their grade in the new pay scale.
“The government has increased our salary but she did not realize that our dignity has been disgraced in the new pay scale”, he added.
“We wanted to back our dignity through a peaceful movement. But we are compelled to come out of the class”, said RUTA general secretary Professor Rejaul Karim.
“We will not withdraw our strike till our demands are met”, he also said.
About today’s meeting of leaders of public university teachers with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Gana Bhaban over finding a solution to the ongoing stalemate, Professor Rejaul Karim said they believe that a fresh solution might be made today.
Meanwhile, no classes and examination held for the third days as the ongoing strike of teachers becomes a barrier in the way of smooth educational activities.
Earlier on 11 January, the teachers of the public universities under the banner of Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association started abstaining works for indefinite period demanding restoration of the selection grades and the timescales and removal of disparities from the new pay structure.
