Russia to build nuke plant in Argentina


Russia and Argentina signed a Memorandum Understanding establishing a Framework for Cooperation between the countries in the field of construction of a nuclear power unit in Argentina. Russia’s latest VVER technology will be used in the unit with installed capacity of 1,200 MW.
In presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Argentinean President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Head of ROSATOM, Russian State Nuclear Corporation, Sergey Kirienko and Argentinean Minister of Federal Planning, Public Investment and Services Julio de Video signed the MoU in Moscow on April 23, 2015.An inter-governmental agreement on the construction of NPP is expected to be signed shortly. According to Sergey Kirienko work on this document is already underway. “We offer the latest Generation III+ atomic energy technologies to Argentina, which fully meet modern requirements of nuclear safety,” said Kirienko.
A number of other agreements related to nuclear power unit construction and operation were also signed with various Russian companies during the visit of Argentinean President.
Earlier on July 12, 2014 Russia and Argentina signed an inter-governmental agreement on peaceful use of atomic energy. – Triune Group press release
