SAFF U-18 Champs: Bangladesh to play Maldives Wednesday


Dhaka – With a sweet memory of beating giant India 4-3 in the opener, high-flying Bangladesh Youth team will play their 2nd match of the five-nation SAFF U-18 Championship against the Maldives at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan on Wednesday. The match will kick off at 7pm local time.Staging a great comeback from three goals behind, Bangladesh made a memorable start in the regional youth soccer meet beating their giant neighbour India by 4-3 goals after displaying a brilliant performance scoring four goals in a row in the 2nd half.Jafar Iqbal struck two, Rahmat Mia and Sufil netted one each for Bangladesh.On the eve of the 2nd match, Head Coach of Bangladesh U-18 team Mahbubur Rahman Roxy said, “We aren’t carrying the fact that we had a brilliant start beating the South Asian giant India. We aren’t underestimating the Maldives. They’re also a good team.””Right now, we’re concentrating on the each upcoming match separately. We’re now in a good position to make the championship fight. All of our focus is on winning the trophy. So, we’re ready to play three upcoming matches to achieve the target,” he further said.Tutul Ahmed Badsha of Bangladesh U-18 Team said, “We did a lot of silly mistakes in the first half against India. We won’t repeat it in the next game. We’re now more confident and serious about the tournament. We concentrate on our mind to bring and achieve the prestigious Championship trophy for Bangladesh.”In the remaining matches, Bangladesh will play Nepal on September 25 and hosts Bhutan on September 27 at the same venue.On completion of the league basis matches, the top team of the five-nation meet will be the champions.UNB news agency
