Sagar-Runi murder case report deferred again

Dhaka, 26 Dec – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Tuesday again deferred the investigation report submission in the case filed over the sensational murders of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.With this, the deadline of submission has been rescheduled 51 times. As the probe report was not submitted yesterday Metropolitan Magistrate Mazharul Haque fixed February 1, 2018 as the next date for submission of the investigatlion report.
The report submission was deferred 50 times in the last five years after the sensational murder. The country’s elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) failed to submit the report so far.
Maasranga Television news editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were found dead in their apartment in the city’s West Rajabazar area on 11 February 2012.
Later, Sher-e- Bangla Nagar Police Station had launched investigation and the case was transferred to the Detective Branch of police.
On April 18, 2012, the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, moved the case to RAB for investigation as the former could not find out the clue of the murder.
At least eight people including the couple’s ‘family friend’ Tanveer Rahman had been arrested in connection with the murder. Tanveer was released on bail later but the others are still in the jail custody. – Special Correspondent
