Salahuddin gets kidney problems, skin rashes


BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed, now undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital in Shillong, is unlikely to be produced before the court very soon as he developed some problems in his kidneys and screen rashes, according to different sources in Shillong.
Independent TV correspondent Golam Kibria reporting from the Meghalayan capital said that Salahuddin Ahmed, who was arrested by Meghalaya police on Monday after 63 days of his disappearance, has not been produced before the court till yesterday.
Quoting Police Super of East Khasi Hills M. Kharkrang he said, “Salahuddin is likely to be produced before court any day next week beginning on Monday after police get clearance from the doctors.”
Meanwhile, Dr DJ Goswami, who is attending Salahuddin at the Civil Hospital, yesterday told reporters that the BNP leader developed some problems in his kidneys and screen rashes. “There is no possibility of releasing him from the hospital in next couple of days,” said the doctor.
Dr Goswami also said that they found some problems after carrying out his blood test and stones were found in his kidneys.
“Salahuddin will be released from the hospital when his condition will be stabilised,” he said.
Police Super Kharkrang said they allowed some of Salahuddin’s relatives to visit him for sometimes.
Asked whether Salahuddin employed any lawyer, he said he is unaware about it since the legal process has yet not begun.
Another sources of police, however, told journalists TV correspondent that a lawyer hailing from Guwahatiyesterday went to the hospital to look after Salahuddin and he might be his possible counsel.
Meanwhile, Salahuddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed yesterday told Journalists that she is ready to start her trip to Shillong to visit her husband but she is yet to receive her visa.
“I am worried about the health condition of my husband as he had stone in his kidneys,” she said.
Asked whether they have engaged any lawyer for Salahuddin, she said it would be finalised after she would go there.
BBC Bangla reports that BNP assistant office secretary who went to India on Thursday night met Salahuddin and talked to him.
Earlier the BBC reported that Salahuddin Ahmed had been brought there blindfolded after changing vehicles for several times.
Meanwhile, convenor of Shata Nagorik Committee Prof Dr Emajuddin Ahmed yesterday demanded the government to form a judicial enquiry committee to investigate as to how he had gone missing and reached Shillong.
“It is important to find out as to how Salahuddin had been picked up, where he had been kept and how he reached Shillong, and make the information public,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting at Jatiya Press Club.
The former vice chancellor of Dhaka University accused the government of resorting to a ‘foul drama’ over Salahuddin Ahmed issue and said their attitude is impractical and unbelievable.
He said the people want to know information about Salahuddin Ahmed and warned Salahuddin’s disappearance is hushed up, the future will not forgive the current regime.
“The government will be held responsible if any thing bad happens to the BNP leader,” he added.
The meeting organized by Swadhinata Forum, a pro-BNP platform, also addressed by Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, Barrister Parvej Ahmed and Khaleda Yasmin. Abu Naser Rahmatullah, president of the organization presided over the meeting. – Staff Reporter
