Saudi King invites PM to attend summit in Riyadh

Dhaka – Saudi King and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attend the Arabic Islamic American Historical Summit in Saudi Arabia. UNB news agency reported
The summit will be held in the Saudi capital of Riyadh on May 21.
The visiting Saudi Minister for Culture and Information Dr Awad Bin-Saleh Al-Awad handed over the invitation letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban on Tuesday.
After the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.
Ihsanul said US President Donald Trump and other heads of state and government from different parts of the world will join the summit.
At the meeting, the Saudi minister expressed the hope that the Bangladesh Prime Minister will attend the summit. “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to join the summit,” the press secretary said.
Talking about terrorism, Sheikh Hasina said only Bangladesh is not facing such a menace, but it is now a global problem.
She also reaffirmed her government’s “zero-tolerance policy” against terrorism, saying it is also spearheading a campaign against the social vice involving the cross section of people. “We’re getting huge response from people and they’re cooperating with us,” she said.
The Prime Minister said underscored the need for stopping the supply of money and arms at any cost to stamp out terrorism.
She also Islam is being defamed across the world due to wrongdoing of a section of Muslims.
The Saudi minister said about 9 lakh people were killed in Iraq and 6 lakh more in Syria in the last few years due to violence, while the number of the displaced people in the region is nearly 12 million.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Senior PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum and PM’s Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Joynul Abedin were present on the occasion.
