SC extends time for Judges’ Conduct Rules gazette

Dhaka – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday allowed one week for the government to publish the gazette notification on the disciplinary and conduct rules for the sub-ordinate court judges.The apex court asked the government to submit the gazette notification on the disciplinary and conduct rules for the sub-ordinate court judges within this timeframe.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order following a petition filed on behalf the Government.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam in favour of the State filed the petition seeking more time for issuing the gazette notification.
Earlier, the Government sought time in several occasions to publish the gazette notification.
On November 7, last year, the Appellate Division ordered the Government to issue the gazette notification on the disciplinary and conduct rules for the judges by November 24.
On December 2, 1999, the Supreme Court in the Masdar Hossain case issued a 12-point directives, including formulating separate disciplinary rules for the sub-ordinate court judges. – Special Correspondent
