Schoolteacher gets life-imprisonment in rape case


A schoolteacher has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court here yesterday on charge of raping his student.

The court also fined Taka one lakh, in default, to suffer one-year more behind the bar.

Judge of the Special Tribunal against Women and Child Repression Abu Sufiyan found him guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict in his presence.

The convict identified as Mamunur Rashid, son of Abdus Samad of Darajpur village under Niamatpur Upazila of Naogaon district.

According to prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused Mamun raped a class ten student in the house of one Habibur Rahman in Tanore Upazila of the district on January 15, 2007.

Father of the victim lodged a case with Tanore Police Station. On completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing him on April 4, 2012.

After examining the recorded deposition of 11 prosecution witnesses including the victim and other relevant evidences the tribunal handed down the verdict.

Special Public Prosecutor Syeda Morjina Khatun appeared in the case on behalf of the state while Advocate Ziaur Rahman defended the accused.
